the cabin game System Requirements
Official Windows minimums and recommended specs, plus what to do when the forest still hitches.
Twisted Corridor published a short spec sheet on Steam for the cabin game. This page reprints those lines, then explains what they mean in an Early Access horror session with online co-op, strobes, and a forest that already has a maybe-fixed teleport. It is not a promise that a 970 feels like a 3060. It is the floor and the comfort line as of the Early Access build that entered Steam on 27 August 2026.
If you already own the game and it runs, skip to the optimization notes and then to settings and performance. If you are still on the store page, match CPU, RAM, GPU, DirectX, and storage before you argue with a review that was filmed on a 3060.
Minimum (Windows)
- OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit. 64-bit processor and operating system required.
- Processor: Intel i5 or new-gen i3.
- Memory: 8 GB RAM.
- Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 970.
- DirectX: Version 11.
- Storage: 16 GB available space.
“New-gen i3” is the store’s wording. Read it as a recent Intel i3, not as a 2012 dual-core with the same brand. If your CPU is an older i3 that predates the current generations, treat yourself as under spec even if the letter i3 appears in the name. AMD equivalents are not listed; compare similar core counts and age rather than wishing a line into the FAQ.
A GTX 970 is a decade-class card. It can run DirectX 11 titles. It will not enjoy maxed lighting, uncapped frames, and four-player netcode at once. Plan on the Low preset, VSync off, and a 60 FPS cap that the First Round Patch actually applies. See the settings page for that recipe.
Recommended (Windows)
- OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit. 64-bit processor and operating system required.
- Processor: Intel i7.
- Memory: 12 GB RAM.
- Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 3060.
- DirectX: Version 12.
- Storage: 16 GB available space.
Recommended is still not a blank cheque. 12 GB RAM is the unusual number here; many PCs sit on 8 GB or 16 GB, not 12. If you have 8 GB, you are on the minimum line even with a 3060. If you have 16 GB, you are above recommended on memory. Close the browser zoo before a chase either way. DirectX 12 on the recommended line does not mean the minimum DX11 path is broken; it means the studio expects newer feature levels on the comfort GPU.
Storage is 16 GB on both lists. Leave extra room for Steam depots and future Boo Factory content. The roadmap includes more store items and holiday events; those will not stay inside a perfectly tight 16 GB forever, even if the current installer fits.
What these numbers are for
the cabin game is first-person, 3D, online co-op or solo, with procedural-feeling cabin layouts and event-driven lighting. Minimum spec is “the session can exist.” Recommended spec is “the session can be fair.” Fair matters because chase speed, attic stalkers, and neighbour events are already being patched for feel. A hitch that looks like a teleport, or a freeze that looks like stuck AI on a cabinet, will be mis-reported if your GPU was melting.
The First Round Patch lowered chase speed, unstuck some drawer AI, and made the FPS cap real. It did not add a magic 970 mode. If you are on minimum hardware, you still owe the game a Low preset. If you are on recommended hardware and still hitch, you have a driver, overlay, or thermals problem, not a missing i9.
Platforms the store actually lists
Steam lists Windows. Features listed alongside the spec are single-player, online co-op, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing. English is the listed interface and full-audio language. This page will not claim macOS, Linux, consoles, or Steam Deck verification. If those appear later, they will show up on the store and then on the Updates Hub. Until then, the supported box is a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC.
Online co-op means your network adapter is part of the spec in practice. A fine GPU with packet loss will still ruin a 1–4 player table. Wired Ethernet is the boring advice that prevents “the neighbour crashed” from actually being “the host dropped.” Neighbour crashes are a real community report too; do not use wifi as an excuse to skip sending a log, and do not use a crash as an excuse to ignore wifi.
If you are under minimum
You can try anyway. Steam will not always stop you. Expect to:
- Use Low, VSync off, FPS cap 30 or 60.
- Disable extra overlays except one FPS counter.
- Keep party chat in a lightweight client.
- Avoid stacking four players plus tricks ‘n treats plus every lobby pet if the host is the weak machine.
- Host on the strongest PC at the table when possible.
If the forest is unplayable, wait. The end-game forest teleport is only maybe-fixed, and that area is also where weaker cards show the hitch. Under-spec players should not treat a teleport as purely a gameplay bug until they have seen a stable FPS overlay in that space.
Optimization that is not on the spec sheet
Player pain during the first days of Early Access named optimization next to the clock and the neighbour crash. The practical response is Low + VSync off, a verified FPS cap, and updated GPU drivers. Close RGB suites, discard second overlays, and do not record 4K on the same 970 that is rendering the hunt. None of that is in Twisted Corridor’s table. All of it is how you give the beginner walkthrough a chance.
Photosensitivity is independent of GPU tier. Strobes can hit a 3060 owner as hard as a 970 owner. Read the warning. Occasional blood and gore is likewise independent of spec.
When your hardware is honest, the remaining limiters are cards, layout, and clue literacy. That is the game. Put the spec sheet away and open the clue notebook or the card rankings. If a future patch raises or lowers these numbers, this page should move with the store, not with a forum guess.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about cards, clues, monsters, and escaping the cabin.
Can I run the cabin game on 8 GB RAM?
8 GB is the listed minimum. 12 GB is recommended. Close extra apps, use Low, and do not expect the recommended experience on the minimum memory line.
Is a GTX 970 enough for co-op?
It is the listed minimum GPU. Use Low graphics, VSync off, and a 60 FPS cap. Host on a stronger machine if one exists at the table.
Does it run on Steam Deck?
The store spec is Windows 10/11 64-bit. This wiki will not invent a Deck verification. Check Steam's own Deck section on the app page.
Why is storage 16 GB on both lists?
That is the current Steam figure for minimum and recommended. Leave extra space for depots and later Boo Factory or holiday content.
Will 1.0 raise the spec?
Unknown. More cards, monsters, and store items are planned. Treat the current table as the Early Access table and re-read it when a patch note mentions rendering.
