the cabin game Red Balloons Event
Follow the music box sound and the small glow. Pop until gold appears. Then pop the gold.
Red Balloons is a combination exploration and stealth Event Card. Your objective is to pop balloons around the cabin until a gold balloon appears, then pop that gold balloon to complete the event. The cabin goes very dark. Red balloons appear one at a time. The catch is that a creature is also moving through the cabin — and it can investigate the sounds you make.
This page is the event recipe. Practical survival habits for the whole event pool live on Survive Events. Danger versus readability ranking lives on event cards. Do not treat this like a speedrun; the creature punishes panic. If you need attic totems or knight puzzle notes, you are on the wrong page.
the cabin game entered Early Access on 27 August 2026. 1–4 online co-op or solo, Steam Windows, $11.99 USD, 30+ cards, 12 monsters, English-only in-game.
How to complete Red Balloons
When the event starts, the cabin becomes very dark. Red balloons begin appearing around the cabin one at a time. You need to pop them all until the gold balloon appears.
To find balloons, listen for the music box sound and look for the small light coming from the balloon. Both cues appear simultaneously — the music tells you direction and the glow tells you distance.
Once you find a balloon:
- Locate the balloon.
- Pop it by interacting with it.
- Listen for the next music box sound.
- Find the next balloon.
- Continue until the gold balloon appears.
- Pop the gold balloon to finish the event.
The exact number of red balloons before the gold appears is not fixed. Do not try to count your way to knowing when it ends. Just keep popping until gold.
How to avoid the creature
Once the creature becomes active, noise becomes extremely important. The creature can investigate sounds, including the noise made when balloons are popped. Every pop is a potential beacon.
Crouching lets you move quietly. Walking across carpet also helps reduce your footsteps. Use both to move between balloons without drawing the creature toward your position.
If the creature starts chasing you:
- Create distance first. Run.
- Use doors and connected rooms to break its path.
- Once you have gained enough space, crouch and continue moving quietly.
Connected rooms with multiple exits are critical here. A dead-end room with one door is the wrong place to be when the creature is chasing you. Loops from room layout are not optional for this event.
Co-op strategy for Red Balloons
Split the search area. One player per wing of the cabin means more balloons found per second and less total time in the dark. Call balloon locations on voice so teammates do not converge on the same balloon and waste time.
When the creature is chasing one player, that player should call it out. The others should keep popping. The event does not pause because one player is being pursued.
Protect players who are fixing a balloon. If someone is about to pop, do not run past them and draw the creature into their space. The caller and the popper need coordination.
After the gold balloon pops
Sit down. Check both pawns on the clock track. Write one sentence in the clue notebook: Red Balloons, cleared, or Red Balloons, caught at X. Then return to investigation. This event does not name the escape room. How to Escape and clues still decide the win.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about cards, clues, monsters, and escaping the cabin.
How do you complete Red Balloons?
Pop every red balloon in the cabin until a gold balloon appears, then pop the gold balloon. Listen for the music box and look for the small glow to locate each balloon.
How many red balloons are there?
The exact number is not fixed. Keep popping until the gold balloon appears — do not try to count your way to knowing when the event ends.
What happens if the creature chases me?
Create distance first by running. Use doors and connected rooms to break its path. Once you have space, crouch and move quietly. Connected rooms with loops are critical for this.
Does popping balloons attract the creature?
Yes. The creature investigates sounds, including balloon pops. Crouch when moving between balloons to reduce your noise profile.
Does Red Balloons identify the escape room?
No. Red Balloons is a timed stealth event, not an investigation. Sit down after and return to clues.
Can I use my lantern during Red Balloons?
Brief lantern use for orientation in very dark areas is understandable, but every light source makes noise and can attract the creature. Use it sparingly and move carefully.
