the cabin game The Tall Man Event
Kill every light in the cabin. He has no eyes. He sees through yours.
The Tall Man is the Event Card that weaponises darkness differently from Neighbour. Where Neighbour drops lights and crashes clients, The Tall Man drops lights and moves through the dark with you. The card text tells you the rule directly: he has no eyes and sees through yours. Keeping the cabin dark is not just atmospheric — it is the survival mechanic.
This page is the event recipe. Practical survival habits for the whole event pool live on Survive Events. Danger versus readability ranking lives on event cards. Do not treat this like a sprint event; Cutting Corner is the patience puzzle. Do not treat it like Neighbour darkness; the crash concern is separate from the chase. If you need darkness crash workarounds, Neighbour is the page.
the cabin game entered Early Access on 27 August 2026. 1–4 online co-op or solo, Steam Windows, $11.99 USD, 30+ cards, 12 monsters, English-only in-game with localization planned.
How to complete The Tall Man
Go through the cabin and find the light switches. Turn the lights off room by room until the cabin is completely dark. The event ends when every light is out.
That is the objective. The complication is that you also should not use your lantern because The Tall Man sees through your eyes. Any light source you control is a beacon for him.
The Tall Man roams the cabin while you are working. Move carefully. Avoid making noise. Use crouch if your character has that option — it reduces footstep volume and makes it harder for him to track you through walls.
What makes this event dangerous
The Tall Man is a mobile threat. He is not a fixed trap like the toy-box or a timed puzzle like Lucky Clovers. He actively hunts players who give themselves away with light or sound.
Staying in a lit room to “be safe” is the wrong read. The lit room is exactly where he expects you. Moving through dark corridors to reach a switch is the correct action even if it feels exposed.
Using your lantern to navigate faster is the trap. The brief comfort of seeing your path is outweighed by the certainty that The Tall Man now knows exactly where you are.
Co-op strategy for The Tall Man
Spread players across different rooms to hit light switches simultaneously. The faster the cabin goes dark, the less time The Tall Man has to close distance.
Call switch locations on voice: “Kitchen done,” “Living Room done.” Once a room is dark, do not re-enter it with a light source. Move to the next switch.
If someone has their lantern on, call it out immediately. That player is drawing The Tall Man and needs to get to a dark room or a loop corridor.
One player can prioritise the final switches while others clear the periphery. The last lit room is the most dangerous because everyone — including The Tall Man — converges on it.
After the cabin goes dark
Sit down. Check both pawns on the clock track. Write one sentence in the clue notebook: The Tall Man, cleared, or The Tall Man, caught with lantern on. Then return to investigation. This event does not name the escape room. How to Escape and clues still decide the win.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about cards, clues, monsters, and escaping the cabin.
How do you beat The Tall Man?
Turn off every light switch in the cabin until it is completely dark. Do not use your lantern — he sees through your eyes and any light you control tells him exactly where you are.
Is The Tall Man a chase event?
Partly. He roams the cabin and can catch you, but the objective is not to outrun him — it is to kill the lights. A connected cabin layout helps you move between switches without getting cornered.
Can I use my lantern during The Tall Man?
No. The card text says he has no eyes but sees through yours. Your lantern is a tracking beacon. Move in the dark, use sound-cuing, and crouch to reduce your noise profile.
Does The Tall Man see in the dark?
Yes. He navigates by seeing through player eyes. That is why any light source you control — lantern, flashlight, anything — tells him your exact position.
Does clearing The Tall Man identify the escape room?
No. Sit down after, check the pawns, and return to investigation. How to escape and clues remain the win condition.
Is The Tall Man the same as Neighbour darkness?
No. Neighbour drops lights and can crash clients. The Tall Man drops lights and actively hunts players in the dark. Different rules, different risks. See Neighbour for crash workarounds.
